Class is in Session

My father has been to 50+ Bruce Springsteen concerts from the 1970s-present. On any given car ride – baseball games in NJ, basketball camp in the city, visiting my cousins in Connecticut, etc. – we were listening to anything and everything from Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. to High Hopes. Mr. Born to Run ran far and took all of us along for the journey. I was jealous when my father went to Springsteen on Broadway and when it came to Netflix I immediately sat back, turned it on, and class was once again in session with the Boss. 

There were 2 messages that I took away from this beautiful performance that I took into 2019 and that I wanted to share with you.

1. "When the world is at its best, when we are at our best, when life feels fullest, one and one equals three."

Yup, 1+1=3. The greatest storyteller, songwriter, and performer did not do it all on his own. The synergy between Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band created an experience that has impacted the world in multiple facets. This math concept also applies at work. Diverse teams that work together and appreciate differences will yield creative, effective approaches each day that exceed expectations. 

2. "Remember that the future is not yet written. So when things look dark, do as my mighty mom would insist. Lace up your dancing shoes, and get to work. "

Approach each day with purpose and lead a life of meaning. Life will not always be easy but if you approach it with a positive outlook and enjoy the struggle, you will find the process just as fruitful and meaningful as the end result. Appreciate the opportunity to work and have an impact on someone or something each day. As we wind down Q3 and head into Q4, lace up your dancing shoes and get to work!
