Clarity, Vision and Motivation.

If this is your first time here, then thank you for subscribing, if you are now enjoying my newsletter and continuing to support its growth, then I am equally grateful, and I hope its insights and tips are helping you to join the dots, between your coaching practice, and the business side to attract more clients, market effectively and grow your business.

This week I am continuing with the theme of foundations, as this is ultimately what makes growing a business easier, more fun and enjoyable.

When I first started out on my new coaching journey, just a few short years ago, like many new coaches, the lines were a little blurred, and it took a while to figure out what I really wanted from my coaching, what that looked like and how I was going to bring that to life.

But wow, since figuring this out, there has been no stopping me. I now know exactly who I want to coach and why, I have created a clear vision statement that I have backed up with goals, and have created a mission statement that I use in all of my marketing.

So what is Vision?

  • Simply put its about, how do you see your business 2-3 years from now, 5 years even 10 years.

Let's expand on that.

Of course, like everything I teach, its a multi-layered process, and its about building those layers to create a strong vision, that reflects the business YOU want to build, and that is the important part. YOU!

Although I trained as a Life coach, and I am doing my Positive Psychology diploma, I wanted to align these with my business skills, that I have learnt from being an entrepreneur and building businesses. So I sat down and asked myself,

who do I want to coach and why?

This next soundbite is really important. You have to build the business, you want to build, not want you think you should build, and this requires you to do some deep diving. I was reminded of this a few weeks ago, when I was having a coaching conversation with someone, who had built quite a large coaching business, and although it was financially doing well, it was draining them of their energy, and was not in alignment with their values, or gave them the work life balance they needed.

We went back to basics, and started to think about what was important, what was their vision, and how did this fit in to their life, now and in the foreseeable future. From here they were able to see what changes needed to be made, and what support was required. Within just a few short sessions, the client had defined their vision, mission and aligned this with their values, and started to create their roadmap to rebuild the business, they wanted on their terms.

Which leads me onto Mission and Motivation.

When you stop and think about the business you actually want to build, then this helps not only to motivate you to get started, but more importantly, really helps you stay motivated, when things get slow, or tough.

Growth in the early days can be hard and slow. It can feel like you are speaking to no-one, but it's not true, people are listening, your clients are out there.

Vision and Mission are interlinked, but Vision comes first, this helps to then define a mission for your business. For me it is about helping change the fact that around 82% of coaches are failing or quit within the first two years, mainly due to the lack of business skills, and this is my genuine motivating factor.

Three big mistakes I see coaches making

  1. Being too vague. Transformational, or empowering are OK but they are vague words, which need to be backed up with something more powerful, more profound. What is the real struggle, what is the truth about who you work with, how can you help, is the fact that a certain percentage struggle because... and can you change that with the work you do.
  2. Not being defined enough with their Niche, and thinking Niching is not important work to do. I get why people are debating the fact, and some people get by, by not niching. But if you have a vision for your business, and want to increase engagement, then niching is vital.
  3. Not defining the niche enough, is the next big mistake I see. So when you have decided on your niche, maybe midlife females, you have to remember, this is not really a niche. It's more of a demographic, which incorporates-Gender. Midlife women who work in Construction is more of a niche. Female solicitors who are burnt out by 40 is a more defined Niche.

Over the last few months many of my conversations have been based around the importance of Clarity and Vision, and how this can then help to define, and then refine your Niche even further. It's worth doing the work.

This is what I mean about Mission. I am so excited!

In accordance with my own Mission, I am running a FREE Masterclass on LINKEDIN on the 31st July at 1pm to talk about how to attract more paying clients.

If you want the FREE download that runs with this Masterclass then send me a message and I will send you the link, then if you can't make it, you will also get the recording, straight to your inbox, apart from the Q&A section at the end.

Summer of learning is here!

I am also going to be opening up my Summer of learning workshop series, starting with the foundations series, Clarity, Vision and Niche, three separate workshops, that interlink and connect the dots, so you can get ready to burst into September, with your own vision in place. Having nailed your niche, and a clearer understanding of how to use this in your marketing. They will run live, but recorded if you cannot make the date, and you get lifetime access, a workbook, and guided support to help you nail this. To find out more reach out and I will send you the details.

Thank you for reading. Next time will be AUGUST. Please share this newsletter so we can support more coaches, and In the meantime, I look forward to giving you more business musing and tips.

Until next time

Agreed Donna Brewer, a Niche is important. I think there is a fear of missing out when people initially start out and that leads to going too broad.. #FOMO
