Clarity for motorists in Windsor Park at Autumnwood & Cottonwood

Hello Windsor Park,

In response to much citizen feedback in the neighbourhood, today I moved a motion concerning the Autumnwood & Cottonwood intersection. For years the ambiguous identity of the intersection lanes has caused conflict between drivers with differing views on how many lanes there are.

To be clear; THERE IS ONLY ONE LANE in each direction, officially. My motion today will ask the public service to return soon with recommendations for how to make that more clear.

Text of the motion below:

WHEREAS motorists approaching the intersection of Autumnwood Avenue and Cottonwood Avenue from either street are unclear as to whether both streets consist of one or two lanes, in either direction;

AND WHEREAS there has been a great deal of confusion for many years among residents and commuters through Windsor Park about how many lanes are in each direction at the point the two streets meet;

AND WHEREAS although the current signage signals to motorists that both streets are single lanes in each direction, the belief among some that both roads are two lanes per direction has led to incidents of road rage and dangerous driving;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Standing Policy Committee on Infrastructure Renewal and Public Works be requested to direct the Winnipeg Public Service to report back on options to decrease confusion for motorists approaching the intersection of Autumnwood Avenue and Cottonwood Avenue.
