'Clarify Your Thinking - How To Clarify Your Thinking In Business Strategy'
It usually takes an unstable and dangerous situation to get our attention. Well, the implications for business post-Covid-19 have my attention!
How about you?
If you are wondering what the future might hold for your business, here are five proven tips - used in CEO conversations for twenty years with corporate and startup business - to help you think it through.
These five tips are relatively straightforward - given the weight of responsibility and risk that goes alongside - but one may challenge where business strategy starts.
- Get someone to talk to as you won't be able to hear yourself think or to listen to the word patterns that energise or restrict your energy and imagination. (Most people actively delete their best insights - they don't hear them). Make sure the person you talk to can act as a devoted listener - devoted listening amplifies your experience through a process called duplication. You don't want a paraphrase, summary, or ritualistic doubting Thomas. No, you want careful and literal listening as it helps you to breathe and access your intelligence.
- Use a structure related to the task at hand. I work in business strategy and use structure relevant to recovering the experiential richness of your words and feelings within a logical framework pertinent to your endeavour. Just make sure your partner has an appropriate working structure, or you won't get very far.
- Focus on an outcome orientation. First, identify the problem or predicament you face - paint it as black as you like. Then flip to the upside of the dilemma. Ask yourself - 'Given the current plight, how can I build a viable future?' Then set the desired outcome as redirecting to an effect releases creativity and physical drive - your neurology lines up.
- Start with a Personal Strategy - sounds revolutionary or possibly irresponsible. But, somewhere along the business strategy process, your needs do emerge. If you don't cater to your needs at the outset, you miss an opportunity to understand how you are thinking - and business decisions can be conflicted. Knowing how you think and feel informs the business strategy. Unavoidable. So, it's a responsible and professional approach which helps a more potent business strategy drop out.
- Map over to the business strategy models and watch the magic.
Of course, devoted listening does not happen in a coffee break! It would help if you had temple conditions - or a quiet place. But, setting up the conditions generates exponential returns when you want to clarify your thinking in business strategy.
Best wishes
Joseph
