Clariant Singapore - Together we show our care for the community.

This year, Clariant Singapore partnered with 5Miles Limited, a non-profit organization that support two homes for the orphans and needy families on Bintan Island, Indonesia. On 13th September 2019, 58 volunteers from Clariant Singapore travelled to Bintan Island to support the following activities:

1. Paint work for perimeter walls of Petra Pre-school

2. Purchase, pack and delivery of food and grocery packs for the needy families

3. Prepare and cook packed meals to the pre-schoolers and needy families in one of the villages.

We also collected money to supply 150 packed meals every fortnight for 1 year to the villagers in the vicinity of Towdah and local language books for the library at the Petra Pre-school.

While preparing the packed meals I saw the portrait of one of the beneficiary, a boy who used to belong to a family of scavengers living in squalid conditions. He and his siblings would skip school frequently to help pick bottles and cans to sell for a measly sum, the family income was barely $50 a month. After his father was sentenced to 5 years jail, the child protection agency intervened and got approval to place him and his siblings in the orphanage. Now the boy is doing well in school and he is an obedient boy with a gentle nature.

I am proud that Clariant has contributed to support the care of orphaned and vulnerable children, and the needy families in our regions. Our contribution might be small, but it is a sincere gesture from our heart that We Care.
