Clapping on 1 & 3

Clapping on 1 & 3

Oh my goodness. I didn’t know this ???? was a thing:

?

When you’re at a concert, you’re supposed to clap on 2 and 4. And not 1 and 3.

?

“Huh?”, I hear you say, my dear friend.

?

Yes, apparently a “good” audience claps on beats 2 and 4 and not 1 and 3.

?

When the drummer is playing, they usually reserve beats 2 and 4 for “trebly percussions” (no idea what that means). And it doesn’t sound as great when you’re clapping on 1 and 3.

?

It also irritates the living [beep] out of musicians when we clap on 1 and 3.

?

There are training videos on YouTube titled “When your audience WON’T STOP clapping on 1 & 3…”

?

and “Friends don’t let friends clap on 1 & 3”.

?

?? ?? ??

?

One Youtuber even said “when your audience commits the cardinal sin of clapping on 1 and 3.”

?

Cardinal sin! A bit dramatic, don’t you think?

?

Here’s what I take from this revelation:

?

?? People want you to clap on 2 and 4.

?? And they get annoyed when you don’t.

?

So what?

?

My friend, clap whenever YOU want.

?

And to all the 1 and 3 clappers, you’re so welcome here. In this community, we do things our way. ??
