Clancy Industry Awards 2018 at WIT

Industrial Placement forms an integral part of the BSc (Hons) in Construction Management & Engineering programme, allowing students to gain experience and apply their learning with some of the leading Irish and international construction companies over a 7 month period.

In recognition of excellence on Industrial Placement, Clancy Construction, sponsor the annual Industry Award for final year Construction Management & Engineering students. Clancy’s are one of Ireland’s leading building contractors and deliver projects across a range of sectors for both public and private clients. Construction Director, Declan Fitzpatrick and Business Development Manager, Brian Costello were in WIT recently to present the awards to the winning students.

The overall winner of the award was Robert Keller, who completed his placement with leading New York-based contractor, JT Magen. Robert worked on the high-end refurbishment of AMC Networks offices in mid-town Manhattan. AMC are a major TV network, who are responsible for hit shows including Breaking Bad, Humans and The Walking Dead.

The runners-up were Jian Seng Soh and Killian Harris. Jian worked with Walls Construction on the prestigious Dublin Landings development.  The project presented many technical challenges with the construction of a large basement and associated foundation engineering works, which Jian was heavily involved in. Killian spent his placement with Clancy Construction on the delivery of new housing units for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council in Carrickmines, where he was part of a team that successfully delivered the project.

Each of the award recipients delivered a presentation summarising their experiences. Both Declan and Brian posed some interesting questions to the students and were very complimentary on the standard of work completed by all involved. In presenting the awards, Declan noted that these students are entering the construction industry at a time of growth, with fantastic employment opportunities available to them.

Course leader, Brian Graham, concluded the awards by thanking Declan, Brian and all involved at Clancy Construction for their ongoing support of the awards and the wider activities of the Construction Management & Engineering programme. He commended Clancy “for their long-standing relationship with WIT…it is a mutually beneficial relationship and we have gained a huge amount from working with such a progressive company.”
