On claiming the media criterion for O-1A

For any media pieces that you include as part of your case, USCIS will check to see if they talk about you and your work (passing mentions do not count and at least some of the substance of any media pieces you submit as part of your case will need to be about you and your work).

Any media piece you use for claiming the press criteria will also need to have a title, a date of publication, has to have an author listed, and translations as necessary. The author requirement means that a lot of magazine articles cannot count towards the press criteria as a lot of magazines have editors and not authors (I have tried to argue that editor is equivalent to author but USCIS has so far not accepted this argument). It also helps if the media pieces you use for your case are related to your area of expertise and can be used as evidence for extraordinary ability.

If you do not currently have any media pieces about you and your work, you can work with a PR agent or company to get media coverage. Just make sure they are working on helping you with contacting relevant media outlets and sources, and not paying media outlets to cover you and your work (if USCIS does not like paid-for media pieces and they will not count them towards meeting the press criteria requirements). Make sure they are drumming up actual interest in what you have to say and not just puff pieces that are clearly for your own benefit.

Nicely summarized. I saw an RFE for EB1A recenetly with media criteria being striked down by USCIS just because one of the articles didn't had an author and they clearly mentioned that.
