Claim Your POWER: Take the Ownership of Your Life and Career

Recently, I facilitated an empowering workshop for a Brazilian group about Protagonismo - taking ownership of your career and life.

In the film industry, the Protagonist is the lead character, and I asked my husband, who is a film producer and director, to better define who the protagonist is.

“Technically, a protagonist is the main character of a story. They drive the plot, facing challenges, making decisions, and developing throughout the story. They are complex, with clear motivations and goals, and they possess a transformation arc. Generally, they are ordinary people who find themselves in extraordinary situations, making them even more fascinating.” Nelson Botter Jr.

I could never describe it so clearly!

To guide people through the transformation arc and take ownership of their lives and careers, I developed the POWER framework. As a fan of acronyms, this is what POWER stands for:

Potential??

Objectives??

Work on Yourself??

Elect??

1. Potential??

Owning your career and life means uncovering your strengths and passions and showing your best self in whatever situation you face. Being aware of your talents, even those which are not applied professionally, equip your toolbox of skills to be used in known and unknown situations.

2. Objectives??

Think of a clear vision as your compass, and objectives as your map. They provide direction and keep you focused on your long-term goals. The protagonist overcomes challenges when things don’t go as planned and is able to recalculate the route toward their goals. Set a clear vision, break it down, and celebrate each step toward your future self!

3. Work on Yourself??

The road to success is paved with continuous learning, self-awareness, and self-improvement. Continuous learning is the key to staying ahead of trends and innovating. Making mistakes and learning from them is also a major quality of those who lead their own lives. Another aspect is the ability to reinvent themselves when the context changes and life requires a new approach.

4. Elect??

Make decisions based on your values and beliefs. Strategically choose the path and the tribe that align with you. It's all about analyzing options, assessing your skills and interests, saying yes and no wisely, and actively deciding where you want to go and with whom.

5. References??

Think of people who inspire you and help you develop your bright side. Cultivating strong relationships with employers, clients, partners, and colleagues creates a network of people who can vouch for your skills, work ethic, and achievements. Choosing a mentor who helps you find the shortcuts to your development is crucial in the process.

Taking ownership of your life is an amazing journey. While it can be complex and sometimes a bumpy, lonely road, there are moments when you feel stuck.

But remember, there is always a supportive crew ready to help your story unfold into incredible new chapters. Embrace the adventure and watch as your life transforms in amazing ways.

Ready to claim your power? Let's do this together!
