Autumn is upon us in our part of the world, and as we shake off the leisurely pace of summer, it's time to catch up. We're starting with a swift recap to bring everyone up to speed on our shared progress and the exciting developments awaiting us. Recap

• We've embraced a surge in CKAN's capabilities with HTMX, thanks to Patricio del Boca. Tracking the progress is simple: See the development.
• Dragan Avramovic's research has opened doors to a future where CKAN isn't tied to just SOLR but welcomes a suite of search engines: Making CKAN Modular to Accommodate Various Search Engines in Place of SOLR
• Dragan didn’t stop there! He’s exploring how CKAN can play nice with multiple search engines, like ElasticSearch. This is more than research. It's a dialogue waiting for your voice: Enabling the Integration of Different Search Engines with CKAN
• Dragan's work also includes a deep dive into harmonizing search parameters across Solr and ElasticSearch: Mapping Solr and ElasticSearch DQL parameters. Have thoughts? Share them in the issue here.
• The POSE Project team rounded off their proposal NSF submission and we now anticipate new opportunities for collaboration and innovation in the world of open data.
• Joel Natividad offered us a visual timeline of CKAN releases, mapping our past to pave the future.
• CKAN was represented at The Tech We Want to Open Governments by Steven De Costa, Patricio del Boca, and Alex Gostev. Their representation is a clear statement of CKAN's growing necessity and adoption.
• Extension upgrade: the Ckanext-editable-config is an API-driven tool for real-time configuration changes in CKAN, building upon the config declarations introduced in CKAN v2.10. This allows for advanced management of configuration options, including setting expected values, validation, and descriptions, without the need for additional code—simply by marking an option as editable in the CKAN configuration file. While it focuses on API functionality over a user interface, it does offer a simplified version of the native CKAN config form in the AdminUI.

News

UI Refresh project takes shape

• We've initiated the candidate screening process, poised for the imminent first interview, marking a pivotal step in the UI Refresh project. Stay tuned for the selection outcomes.

Standards Evolution - DCAT v.3 and DCAT-AP v.3

• A vigorous public discourse unfolds on GitHub and during office hours over the latest iterations of the DCAT standards. A commitment has been made to commence an in-depth analysis into integrating these substantial enhancements to our RDF vocabulary.

• Last month we had a great CKAN Monthly Live meetup with CivicDataLab, an innovative Indian organization focusing on data, tech, and social good. They use open-source tools like CKAN to empower citizens and improve public reforms.
