Civil construction growth by 2.5% in 2023, points out CBIC

According to the projection, growth is based on the evolution of the sector, in addition to housing demand and business in the real estate sector

Acknowledged as one of the main sectors in terms of job creation, civil construction has helped leverage the Brazilian economy in the last two years. According to the forecast of the Brazilian Chamber of Construction Industry (CBIC), the sector should grow 2.5% in 2023, at the pace of the three consecutive years of increase higher than the national economy.

This CBIC projection is based on the evolution of the last two years presented by the industry, the ongoing real estate market business cycle and housing demand.

One of the reasons for the good performance achieved in the previous year is due to the growth of the industrial segment, measured by four sub-indexes: general industry (0.8%); extractive industries (-0.1%); manufacturing industries (0.1%) and electricity, gas, water, sewage and waste management activities (0.6%).

For Tatiana Fasolari, vice president of Fast Engenharia, the civil construction sector showed resilience during the period of isolation in the Covid-19 pandemic, and has shown vigorous recovery since the beginning of the reopening phase. “The number of constructions and expanded projects in the last year was huge. The sector grows in demand and responsibility, according to the needs of society and the market. It is a very high economic investment environment, with great representation in the national economy", she says.

In an analysis carried out by Tatiana, the first three quarters of 2022, when compared to the previous year, showed an increase of 8.2%, while that of the country was 3.2%. The accumulated rate in the last four quarters of 2022, compared to the previous year, showed growth of 8.8% in the sector, compared to a growth of 3% in the country.
