The City of Edwardsville, KS, a small but thriving community within the bustling Kansas City metro area, is seeking a dynamic, personable leader who is ready to bring their skills to be their new City Manager!??

Known for its exceptional quality of life and rich history, the City of Edwardsville offers residents the safety and relaxation of a family-friendly town just 16 miles from the delights of downtown Kansas City. With just under 4,700 residents, Edwardsville is considered a city of the second class — a reclassification completed in 2012 — and stretches across 9.35 square miles within the 2.4 million people-strong Kansas City metro area.

The City of Edwardsville operates under a mayor-council-manager form of government featuring a governing body consisting of the Mayor and 5 Councilmembers elected at large. The mayor is responsible for appointing the City Manager, Municipal Court Judge, Pro Tem Judge, Prosecutor, City Attorney, Planning Commission members, and Cemetery, Parks & Public Spaces Board members with confirmation by the City Council. The next City Manager will be responsible for an approximately $12.2 million annual budget and over 50 employees.

The City of Edwardsville seeks a dynamic, personable leader who is ready to bring their skills to a small but thriving community within the bustling Kansas City metro area. Candidates should be well-versed in the principles and practices of modern city administration and government, personnel management, and the federal, state, and local laws and ordinances that impact city services, funding, and policies. The next City Manager should be able to think outside the box and possess the ability to offer multiple options when looking for solutions. They should be willing to wear many hats utilizing their experience directing municipal operations, anticipating community needs, and overseeing an organization’s financial health is essential.

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, urban planning, business administration, or a related field, and a master’s degree in public administration is highly preferred. A minimum of four years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal government is also required, with at least two years at an executive management level. Certification from the International City/County Management Association is a plus.

The City of Edwardsville is offering a competitive salary of $135,000 - $170,000 for this position based on experience and qualifications. Please note that the selected candidate will be encouraged to establish residency within the Edwardsville city limits.?The first review of applications is scheduled for July 16, 2023.
