City and District Draft Local Plan 2036
We moved another step closer to our new Local Plan after the Council's Cabinet meeting this week. Billed as "a blueprint to guide sustainable development and inclusive economic growth", Cabinet approved a report on the new draft Local Plan to 2036 that will now go on to Council for consideration. Following this, the plan will then be submitted to the Secretary of State for examination.
We have worked closely with partners and statutory agencies in the development of the draft plan, such as the Highways England, Environment Agency and Historic England as well as key organisations and local stakeholders. The draft Local Plan remains a growth focussed plan, building on the Council's strong track record in economic development, and housing and employment growth. It includes the provision of 1,400 new homes each year until 2036 to satisfy Government’s annual housing delivery requirements. It also includes allocation of an additional 290 hectares of employment land.
The Cabinet report contains proposed new additions to the plan, including designating Newstead View in Fitzwilliam as a housing site, and allocating land at Junction 39 M1 at Durkar as a Special Policy Area for employment and housing.
The Local Plan is supported by our new Housing Strategy (see my separate article on this here).
