Citrus giants will irrigate 2,400 hectares with Rivulis
To keep Brazil as the world leader in orange production, two major citrus companies will start drip irrigation projects in their orchards, using technology from Rivulis?
In a significant move to sustain Brazil's position as the world's leading orange producer, two major citrus companies are launching extensive drip irrigation initiatives across 2,400 hectares of orchards in S?o Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Mato Grosso do Sul. These collaborations leverage cutting-edge technology from Rivulis, the global leader in localized irrigation solutions with nearly a century of expertise.?
Drip irrigation is a highly efficient method that delivers water and nutrients directly to the plant roots, minimizing waste and maximizing resource use. This approach is especially crucial for citrus trees, which are sensitive to water stress. Precise water application during critical growth phases enhances fruit size, quality, and uniformity, ultimately leading to improved yields and sustainable farming practices.
Eran Ossmy, president of Rivulis' Micro Irrigation Division, emphasizes the importance of these partnerships, stating that it reflects the companies’ dedication to sustainability and operational efficiency. “Our comprehensive micro irrigation services support the industry in optimizing resources while increasing productivity. These systems are recognized for their effectiveness in resource utilization and nutrient distribution,” he explained.
The citrus sector faces significant challenges, including a projected 24% decrease in production this year, largely due to the impacts of the Asian citrus greening disease (Huanglongbing). This bacterial infection poses a severe threat to crops worldwide.

Additionally, climate instability has led to erratic rainfall and severe droughts, complicating production efforts. “Advanced irrigation solutions can help mitigate these challenges, providing greater security for producers. This is why leading companies are turning to these technologies to maintain Brazil's status in global citrus production,” concluded Leandro Lance, Sales Director, Brazil.?
