Changes in Citrix Software License Model:
Perpetual licenses and upgrades of perpetual licenses can no longer be purchased after October 1, 2020.
What changes?
Only until 30 September 2020 Organizations will be able to build or upgrade their license inventory with perpetual licenses. Upgrades to a higher edition are also only possible until the end of the quarter. From 01.10.2020 onwards, they will then only have the option of a subscription, i.e. a subscription license, as an on-premises or cloud variant.
Affected are: Only the products Citrix Workspace, Citrix Virtual Apps, Citrix Virtual Desktops, Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops, Citrix Content Collaboration, Citrix Endpoint Management, Citrix Hypervisor, Citrix Provisioning Server, Citrix App Layering.
Not affected are the ADCs - no matter if software or hardware.
The change means:
From 1.10.2020 perpetual licenses can no longer be purchased; new licenses are available as rental licenses from then on.
Organizations can continue to use their existing Citrix licenses (perpetual, i.e. purchase licenses) and extend the maintenance for them. From 1.10.2020, the purchase of new licenses in the same model is no longer possible. Also, the update to a higher edition can no longer be ordered for purchased licenses.
From 1st October 2020 then on, if a Organizations needs further licenses or an update to higher editions, he can request rental licenses, of which there are two variants:
a) On Prem Subscription:
a. This license is compatible with existing purchase licenses but cannot be upgraded to higher editions or converted to a cloud license.
b. Prices are calculated in a tier-pricing model. Volume license agreement conditions do not apply here.
c. The price is lower for a multi-year subscription than for rentals for only one year.
d. Organizations can pay the subscription annually in advance instead of paying the entire multi-year subscription all at once in advance.
b) On Cloud Subscription License: you can convert your existing perpetual licenses into these (at a discounted price) and then order additional new licenses as cloud licenses.
a. It is not possible to mix cloud and perpetual licenses.
b. Prices are calculated in a tier-pricing model. Volume license agreement conditions do not apply here.
c. The price is lower for a multi-year subscription than for rentals for only one year.
Organizations can pay the subscription annually in advance instead of paying the entire multi-year subscription all at once in advance
