Citrix to AVD…is a trickle becoming a flood?
Working alongside the sales team at Kocho I sometimes see a possible pattern in the conversations we’re having.
?
This week we’ve seen a number of enquiries about migrating away from Citrix to Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)….we’ve not been marketing in this area, they have just popped up as part of conversations and enquires coming in.
?
Of course all this could be just pure coincidence, but then that would make this a very short Byte!!
?
So let’s dig into this just a bit….
?
Just to be clear this isn’t going to turn into a Citrix vs Azure Virtual Desktop piece.? Both solutions have their strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately they both can do a similar job.
?
Historically, of course, Citrix was THE solution for all this. Consequently it is often a platform that has a long legacy in IT environments and will firmly be in the “if it isn't broke don’t fix it” area of IT.
?
However, if the background there has clearly been a massive change in environments over the years and the shift from on-prem to Azure has maybe weakened some of the foundations of this pillar of IT sometimes stretching back to the dawn of Windows OS.

I guess any blog in this space has to also mention the fact that there a fair bit of noise relating to the price of Citrix licencing (with it being reported earlier this year that in some cases it could be doubling).
?
Ultimately you end up with a potential trade off of the cost of change vs the cost of staying put. And it does appear (this week at least) that maybe that calculation has now swung towards making a change.? And as specialists on AVD we at Kocho are obviously happy to help!
?
So, what do you think readers? Is it just coincidence, or a maybe a trend??
?
If you’re also thinking about making the change then, as always, Kocho have to skills to sort this.? Feel free to get in touch:?
