Following investor pressure, Citigroup is taking steps to close pay gaps in the US, UK, and Germany — becoming the first Wall Street bank to analyze and disclose pay data. The firm will increase compensation for women in the three countries, as well as US minorities. The groups earn an average 99% of what their male and non-minority counterparts earn, the bank said. But its analysis doesn’t address executive representation; while roughly half of Citi’s employees are women, only a quarter are in senior executive roles, notes Bloomberg. Starting in April, all UK employers with more than 250 workers will have to report pay data. ? Share your thoughts: #CitigroupPay
CVS Health is ending photo touch-ups for its beauty marketing beginning April 2019. Other makeup and beauty brands that sell at CVS will need to comply with the same policy by 2020 or use a label indicating image manipulation. The biggest US drugstore chain says unrealistic body images contribute to health issues among women; with more than 9,700 stores nationwide, the chain holds “significant influence over makeup marketing,” USA Today explains. ? Ford will more than double its investment in electric vehicles. The automaker plans to have 40 hybrid and fully electric vehicles in its lineup by 2022, and increase spending to $11 billion — a “sharply higher” figure than the previously targeted $4.5 billion, Chairman Bill Ford announced at the Detroit auto show. The move comes as carmakers face increasing regulatory pressures to cut down on carbon emissions. ? Share your thoughts: #FordElectric
The government shutdown clock is ticking. GOP leaders are seeking a short-term funding bill after deciding a long-term solution was unlikely ahead of Friday’s deadline. Democrats have said they will only support a stopgap measure if it includes a legislative fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that protects young immigrants who came to the US illegally; Republicans have said they will keep the issue separate. The last government shutdown was in 2013. ? Share your thoughts: #GovtShutdown
?Smart speaker ownership is on the rise. Roughly 16% of Americans — or 39 million people — currently own a smart speaker, according to a study by NPR and Edison Research. The latest figure is a 128% increase from January 2017. The growing trend has already started spelling trouble for other devices like smartphones and tablets, whose adoption rates are now slower than that of smart speakers. ? Idea of the Day: “To start attracting and hiring stronger talent throw away your traditional job descriptions and describe the work that needs to be done,” says hiring expert Lou Adler. Interviewers need to focus less on listing skills and more on the concrete tasks that make up the job itself.
“If you can prove the person can do this work and is passionate about doing it, he/she will have exactly the skills, experiences, motivation, competencies and academic credentials needed AND the compensation/location/title will be less important.”

7 年Yeah, I think things need to evolve that way. Often, however, the passion doesn't last. Unless the job keeps growing with vertical and/or horizontal enrichment, people will start looking for challenges elsewhere, at least those that are initiators and change agents. The work that needs to be done may be temporary. while the person coming in is thinking long term and about ever expanding their skill set in bigger tasks and responsibilities.
