Cisco On Analyst Minds, Qualcomm's Bet on AI Paying Off, Cohesity Buy Veritas

Cisco is bolstering its identity intelligence and control capabilities unveiling a first-of-its-kind AI-powered identity intelligence, offering unified visibility and AI-driven analytics.

Cisco's three pillars to their IT strategy, user experience, agile ways of working, AI and cloud (technology), has them well positioned, especially post Splunk buy.

Announced at Cisco Live Amsterdam, the company moved to address enterprises that will be deploying generative AI on-premises and in hybrid cloud models, giving an audience a view into their partnership with folks like NVIDIA and Hitachi Ventures. They also launched a Webex app for the Apple Vision Pro.

Visualization Of The Week: Qualcomm's Consistent Revenue

Qualcomm bets on GenAI and automotive seems to be paying off with 5% revenue increases in the its latest earnings. The automotive segment was driven by increased content in new vehicles along with smartphone digital platforms.

Despite a rocky start to the year, the handset market rallied in H2 2023, and the momentum of that rebound carried into Q1, with Qualcomm generating $6.7 billion from the segment for the quarter (a 16% YoY increase).

The company’s latest Neural Processing Units (NPU) have been designed from the ground up for generative AI, explaining how on-device generative AI can become a reality through solving the computational challenges and sheds some light on the types of on-device generative AI applications that might make sense.

Cohesity + Vertitas Is Big For Security + Data

Cohesity has agreed to acquire Veritas’ data protection operations, marking a major transformation in the data security industry. The combined entity, which Cohesity says will have a valuation of $7 billion, will take advantage of the significant growth in the data security field.

From Cohesity CEO Sanjay Poonen:

“By merging Cohesity and Veritas, the resulting entity will emphasize product innovation and a strong commitment to customer obsession, backed by an engineering team that is twice as large as that of any competitor. This expanded team will particularly focus on enhancing security and AI capabilities to set new standards in these critical areas.”

Going forward, Cohesity’s product lineup, including cloud-native secondary storage and data management-as-a-service (DMaaS) via the Cohesity Data Cloud platform, will continue to be sold and supported in its entirety. The portion of Veritas that’s being spun off for combination with Cohesity offers NetBackup for hybrid cloud backup and security, along with NetBackup Appliances, and Veritas Alta SaaS Protection platform.

Super Bowl Analyst Takes On Brand & Security

Forrester’s CommunityVoices Market Research Online Community (MROC) panel asked 328 US online adults about their Super Bowl viewing where two-thirds say they plan to watch the Super Bowl and three-quarters say they will wait for the live broadcast to watch the commercials.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is deployed every year to the Super Bowl to help protect the digital footprint of one of the largest sporting events in the world. Last year, Microsoft published a report on the rising digital threats against live high-profile sporting events such as the Super Bowl. The global sports market is valued at $600 billion, meaning there is a lot of value in the data that passes through this industry, including that which directly relates to teams as well as that which touches “critical business services, such as point-of-sale devices, I.T. infrastructures, and visitor devices.

NFL and sports is big money for tech, but the Disney, Fox, And Warner Streaming Sports Venture is very messy for sure.
