The Circular Nature of San Francisco Politics
Reading the news I am reminded that no issue in San Francisco every truly goes away. The current debate about closing JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park is not new. In 1998, I ran the campaign to allow construction of a parking garage under the music concourse in Golden Gate Park. One the main arguments for this garage was that it would allow access to parking for the museums in park, even when JFK Drive is closed.
The supporters of the measure also strongly supported removing parking from JFK at all times.
The challenges of running a small business in San Francisco are not new either. In 2007, we helped develop and pass Proposition I, which expanded the authority of the Small Business Commission, created the Small Business Assistance Center and create an advocate for small businesses. From reports in the SF Chronicle, It is clear that Proposition I, did not solve the problems that small business owners face in San Francisco.
Of course real estate, Muni, homelessness crime and the sometimes inexplicable actions of the school board are evergreen sources of controversy in San Francisco.
