Circular Economy for Mobile Operators: Introduction of ITU-T L.1023
Without trying to repeat or summarise the GSMA whitepaper we want to address the importance of the introduction of the ITU-T L.1023 standard, which addresses the ability to repair, refurbish and finally recycle.
NetlifeSaaS is providing similar information for a long time with data coming from years of operational and commercial experience. It for instance has a Repairability Scoring, which helps us to assess commercial feasibility of Spare-part management contracts, we use High-Runner codes to know whether an item has any interest (sell) in the aftermarket or reverse is available in the aftermarket (buy) and finally a Recycle score to express how much you can spend on logistics, warehousing or manpower for it to make (again, commercial) sense.
As you see, all these at their inception were not created to “save the planet”, but to evaluate commercial sanity. This is not necessarily a bad thing since we always, and at any point need to know both the environmental as commercial impact of things we do, which luckily often go hand in hand.
With the standard now set by the ITU-T we are excited to incorporate this into Netlife and continue to improve the ways to become the de-facto catalyser and enabler for the Circular Economy in Telecom.
