Cipla Indore – A lighthouse for a future-ready Cipla

Recently Cipla’s Indore Oral Solid Dosage facility earned the most coveted recognition of ‘Advanced Fourth Industrial Revolution Lighthouse’ by the World Economic Forum .

A beacon of tech-driven excellence, agility and sustainability, our factory joins the global 'Lighthouse' network - a community of 100+ global manufacturing sites that are world leaders in adopting and integrating cutting-edge advanced technologies in production. Technologies such as advanced analytics, robotics, artificial intelligence, IoT, big data helps drive business efficiency, reduce environmental footprint, upskill and engage workforce.

Designated by an independent panel of experts, this newly recognised lighthouse is paving the way by demonstrating exemplary tech engagement by implementing end-to-end digitisation, pushing the envelope of technological advancements and charting the path for rapid digital transformation across industries. Here’s some pivotal aspects from our lighthouse journey:

• Adopting a digital mindset- At Cipla, we aspire to create plants of the future in a digitally native organisation, that will transform the lives of our people and all our stakeholders. Towards this we embarked on a strategic ‘Reimagination’ journey by embracing and layering in digital tools and integrating data in our operations across the value chain. This helped us enhance our connection with patients, doctors and other stakeholders.
• Safeguarding our planet – Sustainability is embedded at the heart of everything we do, and we have set ambitious net-zero aspirations under our sustainability pledge – i.e. to be carbon positive, water positive, and zero waste to landfill by 2030. In order to achieve this, it is imperative to become leaner and more efficient in our operations, and drastically reduce consumption of energy. Automation of manufacturing lines, optimising machine parameters and deployment of data-driven analytics helped reduce energy consumption while specific greenhouse gas emissions were lowered by 28%.
• Future-fit talent – Over the course of two years, we deployed 4th Industrial Revolution technologies across a network of 22 Indian sites in parallel and in doing so, our people engagement, talent development, and capability-building of workforce played a critical role. Firstly, we infused fresh talent into the organisation to embed the data-driven digitally native aspects and ensured that before Cipla can influence them, they influenced Cipla. Secondly, we upskilled our existing people by enhancing their capabilities focused on a very different set of learning journeys on digital and analytics– to ensure the organization is onboarded onto a digital-enabled way of working. These approaches resulted in 23%* rise in productivity.

Going forward digital analytics and automation will continue to redefine the benchmarks of performance in pharma operations. At Cipla, our steadfast focus remains on leveraging the power of digital solutions to shape the healthcare ecosystem meaningfully by bringing about accessibility and affordability in healthcare.
