CIO's cooking up a feast..
Where we do start with the challenges that we face in the CIO space?
Bashing the words "CIO issues" into a search engine and you see all the standard
It's quite a list to look at there, where would you start - Please do feel free to add your thoughts here into the comments, I'm always keen to hear what others think, and if you are in any events let me know and we can grab a cuppa tea (or coffee) and discuss.
Personally, to me this list is more of a reference point. It's not my priority list and it's certainly not the priority list for any of my clients.
I pull myself back to what is important for the board or decision makers in the business. Remember each business - even if it's in the same sector. Will have different needs, wants, requirements, budgets, compliances and different clients.
All the ingredients as I say, as different, so the output will be different by default.
So, now we have one part, the needs. Which is great, but we also need to know how the communicate with the board, what language to use? Are they technical, or not. What pushes them away and makes them switch off is just as important to know as the good stuff. What makes them listen and join in.
CIO you are like a chef
As a CIO, you are like a chef, you have the ingredients to add weigh out, to mix in the right order, at the right time. The oven may need to be heated, other tasks may to be completed in a set order... Only when you have the balance right goes the end product look and taste amazing!
Get it slightly wrong and it might,
In closing here, you cannot rush the chef, it takes as long as is needed to cook and bake to perfection.

I believe as CIO you need to plan and coordinate. You can't do it all, and do any of it well if you rush, you will miss details and you'll end up going back to the drawing board.
Identify what is important. Focus on that, capture the details and plan ahead.
As is the case in most things in life, it's all in the planning and understanding what is needed.

9 个月Hey Paul, I like this. Best line of it all for me is “Identify what is important and focus on that.” Too many people get carried away with what the potential is when “implementing” new systems and go overboard and the set up becomes complex and lengthy. Getting the important things done in a timely manner for the end user, however, shows that you have listened to their needs and also sets a platform on which more transformation can be built on ??
