The main models of IT department organization
The Information System is somewhat equivalent to the nervous system of the human body. It conveys information that has the consequence of driving the company forward.
We observe three main types of IT departments in companies, depending on the maturity or the importance of the role of their Information System. The organization of the IT department often reflects the relationship the company has with its Information System.

The organizational model of the IT Department for Execution is one in which information technology is not a strategic differentiator in the company's offerings of products or services to its customers. The IT department acts as a registration desk for the requests from the business units. It is dependent on the Administrative and Financial Department and is perceived as a cost center that needs cost optimization.
In this context, it is understood that the IT department primarily assumes an operational role, striving to maintain operational efficiency at the best possible cost. The IT department does not necessarily need to be present in the Executive Committee (Comité de Direction - Codir) in this type of organization.
An IT department for execution can be outstanding in performance but remains in a supportive position to the business units.
The three types of IT departments do not operate in the same way or have the same objectives. It is common for companies to inherit a specific model that may require evolution.
The different models of IT departments present distinct approaches that respond to the changing needs of companies depending on their maturity. The transition from one model to another can be a complex challenge, but it is essential to effectively adapt to the evolution of the technological and business landscape.
