?? CINGS Presents: Building Bridges in U.S.-China Climate and Sustainability Collaboration | NYC Climate Week 2024 ??
CINGS (China Institute Next Gen x Serica)
One Vision, One Goal
On September 28, 2024, we were honored to host an impactful event organized by China Institute Next Gen X Serica, China Institute, and Serica Initiative as part of NYC Climate Week 2024. The event brought together thought leaders and experts to foster meaningful discussions on advancing climate and sustainability goals through U.S.-China collaboration.
The event began with remarks from Yong Zhao, Co-President of CINGS, who introduced the work of CINGS and emphasized the importance of building bridges through climate and sustainability—values that are deeply aligned with CINGS’ mission.
A special thanks to our keynote speaker, Mr. Pedro Guazo, Representative of the Secretary-General for the Investment of the Assets of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), who delivered his keynote speech on “Investing in a Shared Future.” Mr. Guazo delivered a thought-provoking address on the critical role that institutional investors play in shaping the global sustainability agenda. As a Universal Owner, UNJSPF actively takes on the responsibility of driving transformative change by leveraging its global portfolio to decarbonize economies, promote sustainable development, and align its investments with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). His insights highlighted UNJSPF’s leadership in responsible investment, underscoring the power of institutional investors to shape a low-carbon, sustainable future for all.
The event then moved into an engaging panel discussion titled “Bridging Corporate Action and Investment for U.S.-China Climate Success,” moderated by Kenny Chen, member of CINGS Climate & Sustainability Committee. The panel featured industry experts Yubo Zhai from NaaS Technology, Jasmine Wang from Worldview Global Impact, and Yupu Zhao from BCG, who shared their perspectives on how corporate action and strategic investments are key to addressing climate challenges. The discussion explored scaling clean energy solutions, the role of impact investing in fostering international cooperation, and practical strategies for corporations and investors to integrate sustainability into their operations.
We were also pleased to welcome a cohort of students from the Columbia Climate School, who attended as part of our CINGS outreach initiative. This reflects our commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences for the next generation of climate leaders, empowering them to actively engage in the global sustainability agenda and to contribute to the critical challenges of our time.
