Ciaran Reidy Of The Johnstown Estate On His Journey

In this week's edition, Hospitality Ireland recently caught up with Ciaran Reidy, general manager of The Johnstown Estate, to discuss exciting new developments at the property and his own international background in hotel management.

The listed 18th Century rural residence offers 128 bedrooms and excellent dining options and a new cocktail bar.

The house was restored in the early years of the new millennium and a new resort hotel developed around it to become The Johnstown House Hotel. In 2015, under new ownership, the hotel was extensively refurbished, expanded and rebranded to become The Johnstown Estate.

Regenerative Tourism

Fáilte Ireland has announced the first round of approved investment grants for projects under the EU Just Transition Fund, which are being delivered as part of its Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme 2023-2026, co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the EU.

Twenty-two projects have been approved for a €27.1 million investment under the scheme, which includes walking and cycling trails on former industrial peatlands, and investment in local-authority and state agency tourism and visitor experience projects.

“These transformative projects, spanning the entire region, will create more reasons for domestic and international tourists to visit Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and Ireland’s Ancient East, generating new opportunities for employment, empowering local businesses, and enhancing local communities, while strengthening the appeal of the Midlands as a tourist destination for generations to come,” said Paul Kelly, CEO of Fáilte Ireland.

Aisling Hotel

Dublin’s Ashling Hotel has unveiled a new sensory family bedroom, specifically designed for children and families staying at the hotel.

The provision of a sensory room for guests in the Dublin 8 hotel makes it the first in the capital to offer such a space.

Due to the Ashling Hotel’s close proximity to St James’s Hospital and other neighbouring hospitals, it frequently hosts families attending various medical appointments.

Furthermore, the fact that autism awareness charity As I Am is a long-standing designated charity partner led to the idea to have a tailor-made family bedroom suite, specifically aimed at offering a true sensory-sensitive room for guests.
