The Chlorella-like green alga TDX16-DE arises from the Chroococcidiopsis-like cyanobacterium TDX16, which is the first alga and also the first organism with known origin and formation process and thus of great importance and significance in biology. The present study presents taxonomic assignment of TDX16-DE to lay the basis for relevant research. Based upon TDX16-DE’s cyanobacterial origin in combination with its cell morphology, ultrastructure, photosynthetic pigments and 18S rRNA gene sequence, we describe TDX16-DE as a new genus and species, Chroococcidiorella tianjinensis gen. et sp. nov. #Cyanobacterial_Origin #Ultrastructure
