ONE-OFF DECORATIVE PARTS...

...are difficult sub-projects within large VVIP programs or Business Jets. Finding the right source to manufacture such parts is key to a successful outcome. The parts pictured here were developed by Aloft Interior Architects (PATS) Delaware, on behalf of their client. The part's design & manufacturing contract was let to Richard Roseman Luxury. But the raw parts themselves were manufactured by Stratasys Direct Manufacturing. Obviously the parts are very complex with complex geometry and extremely demanding quality requirements.

Choosing the right manufacturing partner became a challenge in and of itself, but when the dust settled, Stratasys was chosen and "what a remarkable decision that turned out to be" says Brian Meyer of RRL.

Below is the evolution of an extremely challenging cabin artwork requirement on a BBJ - but with an extremely good outcome, and a very happy customer.

Following many manufacturing design iterations, rough test parts were made under the careful interface and direction of Stratasys' manufacturing lead - one of several that head up their aerospace unit. Various materials were tested for stability, plate-ability, material conformance, weight and a host of other factors.

The selected plating partner for the project was Quaker City Plating in southern California. QCP has a long history in aviation projects and arguably the longest history in the plating of "non-metallic" parts, which was essential in meeting both the time and weight constraints of the project.

The parts shown above were but one of several thematic artworks. A very complex jeweled crest was also part of the scope - pictured below at an interim level - and then as the final delivered part.

Wow Rick, those turned out great! Very challenging pieces, but well worth the end result.
