According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, Christopher A. West, 23, was southbound in a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado at the intersection of Rt. CC and Rt. H, five miles west of Fair Grove, when a westbound 2010 Subaru Outback made a left turn into his path.

West was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Marcelo Assmann at around 3:32 p.m., the report stated. He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. The report stated next of kin had been notified.

Dilday suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, the report stated.

Dilday, as the surviving driver, was tested for alcohol as required by law. Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by Henry’s Towing of Springfield. Cpl. T.A. Badgett investigated the crash and was assisted by Sgt. Richardson with the MSHP Major Crash Investigation Unit.

According to social media, West was a volunteer with the Pleasant Hope Fire Protection District. The fire district shared an image with West’s call number on social media late Thursday night to honor him.
