Christopher Columbus Made Huge Mistakes!

Christopher Columbus must have been a very determined and courageous man! This Italian convinced Queen Isabella of Spain to finance his idea of sailing around the world to establish new territory for Spain, find precious gold and silver, and to spread the gospel of Christ. Isabella the Catholic did not approve Chris' first two plans as she was very intelligent and demanding.

When Chris began to find land in 1492, he called the indigenous people "Indians!" We know that he was no where near India, but he did not know that.

On January 9, 1493, near the Dominican Republic he reported that he saw three mermaids which were actually manatees!

More than five hundred years later, Chris is remembered as one of the most famous explorers of all time and that is as it should be! I have made mistakes in very unforgiving and very forgiving circumstances. Although I would much rather make mistakes in a very forgiving environment, I have learned from and benefited from all of them, even though some were very painful. The pain lasted only for a very short time.

Imagine, if you will, that you are Chris in 1492. Most of his friends and associates thought the world was flat. He was about to sail into waters that very few, if any, Europeans had ever seen. We have no idea how many really huge mistakes that Chris made during his years as a world renowned explorer, but he got better and better. He learned from his mistakes and built his knowledge base. We, you and I, can avoid many mistakes by research and consultation with our friends before we act. Here is a good place to do that! I am thankful for all of you and your knowledge and expertise. Thanks for sharing! Have a great safe and successful day today! Remember Christopher Columbus!
