Hebrews 13:16 encourages us to do good things and share kindness with others. FLCF believes it is the true meaning of Christmas. Receiving is always challenging, but when we share the things we have with others, it brings love into the world.

WHO WE ARE?

We are named ourselves friends as we are called to bring the light we have received into the lives of those around us, into our communities, workplaces, families, and our loved ones. We initiated as Sunil’s Friends in 1994, expanded our mission in 2005 under Friends Kinderhilfe International e.V., and established our local organization in Sri Lanka in 2012.?

We are now Friends Lanka Child Foundation (FLCF) to support children to stand on their own feet. We have over 29 years of experience in providing child sponsorships, scholarships, emergency relief, one-to-one counseling sessions, remedial classes, and vocational training for young individuals to thrive.

Why the Child sponsorship Program in the Christmas season?

The child sponsorship program is one of the main services that we expanded in 6 districts. It provides underprivileged children educational support along with monthly financial scholarships, individual and grouped counseling, and after-school classes. And it is categorized as Up to O/L, UP to A/L, and Undergraduates. The purpose of it is to enable children who have financial hardships to reach better educational standards, ultimately empowering them to become self-sufficient and contribute meaningfully to their communities. FLCF does monitor the program and is committed to the wise stewardship of every sponsorship. Our monitoring and evaluation team holds a crucial role with every branch, serving as the gatekeepers of the child sponsorship program, integrity, and operational efficiency. We are responsible for every child sponsor and promote transparency and accountability with them.

Financial support

We have been providing financial sponsorship to underprivileged children for the last 19 years and have reached hundreds of children in Colombo, Kalutara, Galle, Hambantota, Kilinochchi, and Puttalam districts. It enabled their education and helped manage the financial stability of those families. According to the FLCF Child Sponsorship Program, it is compulsory to deposit 1000 LKR into the child’s bank account every month. This policy is required for school children, not for undergraduates. Because of this policy, FLCF could provide an investing plan to save some money for the child’s future endeavors.?

Counseling and child protection?

The FLCF child sponsorship program is closely working with its counseling team. It provides children individual and group counseling sessions. As well as a program that guides children to enhance decision-making and behavior management skills. The program is developed to strengthen parents and guardians of those children. FLCF has been working to create awareness of child safety among the children and parents every year and conducting leadership and motivational programs for children.?

True friends love at all times. They are rare but are always loyal. We, too, as a team of friends, aim to share the love of God and spread the light we have received into our lives.
