Christmas KPI'S

Christmas KPI'S

I admit that new KPIs aren’t on most people’s Christmas list but this could be perfect time to dust them off, a bit like checking the Christmas tree lights before putting them on the tree.

Like bulbs, the power of KPIs can fade over time and eventually fail to light the way to the intended strategic destination. If you ‘get what you measure’ then the same old KPIs (and targets) means the same old results. This is why KPIs themselves need improvement to find what’s working and what isn’t.

Just imagine you put some KPIs in place and instead of measuring and improving performance, they lead to the opposite: A chasing of numbers, for the sake of it and resulting in reduced performance.

KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) should be the most important measures used by companies to track their progress against strategic goals. A well-designed set of KPIs should provide the vital navigation that give everyone an understanding of current levels of performance. However, in practice, these well-intended KPIs can turn toxic.

So, we are all wrapping up for the Christmas period and having our end of year reviews. Either congratulating each other on our successes or reviewing on areas we could improve upon in 2016. Let’s ensure the KPI’s we are set or set our teams for next year are the right kind, the kind that bread fantastic results and not a competition to hit pointless numbers resulting in low performance.

Wishing all of my LinkedIn Connections a wonderful Christmas and a well-deserved rest. I look forward to speaking with you all in 2016.
