Christmas and the Joy of Giving

By Ankur Tewari

Who would have guessed that it's December already and it's two weeks before Christmas, and time has flown by fast this year. 2023 is about to come to an end and a new year will dawn upon us soon. Let's introspect and ask ourselves, what have we achieved this year and what happened to those New Year Resolutions? Have we set out what we have set out to do? Christmas is a time of generosity, giving, and merriment but so many people will not have a good Christmas and there are many downtrodden and underprivileged in the community today.

The world has gone through several tumultuous events like COVID and the Ukraine War and is unstable right now, it needs some love and healing. We need to ensure that the World is a better place for future generations in this globalized, technologically advanced world. The key question to ask is whether Technology making us more humane or robotic and indifferent to the world's problems.

In response to the Global Conflict, the World Bank in conjunction with the Southern African Development Community is donating 100 million US Dollars to fight poverty and child malnutrition in Southern Africa and ensure gainful employment for all. It is a good initiative to work towards and achieve the Millenium Development Goals of 2030 where Global Poverty is supposed to be reduced by 45% and this is a step in the right direction.

This is the true meaning of Christmas and goes a long way in alleviating the difficulties of the poor and marginalized. I hope the World and the LinkedIn Community read this Article with interest and develop a genuine interest in the plight of these people. Remember we all are one and it is in our interest to keep the world a happy place.
