Christmas gifts: 45% of French people to spend less than last year

???? ?The general economic context (inflation, energy crisis, ...) and the worries linked to it are affecting the purchases of this end of year.

?? Specifically for Christmas gift purchases, the trend is downwards:

-?????????50% of French people intended to spend as much as in 2021

-?????????45% planned to decrease their 'gift' budget

-?????????And only 5% to increase it

?? ?? ?? ?? Note that this trend concerns all age groups, all social categories and all regions; no significant difference being noted.

?

??? Regarding the types of gifts, a majority of French people (53%) pay attention to the origin of the gifts they buy even though the motivations are diverse:

-?????????30.5% favor local products

-?????????18% turn to eco-responsible items

-?????????17.5% favor second-hand, recycled or reconditioned products

-?????????13% are looking for ethically-made items

-?????????6% would buy gifts from the social economy (work-based support center, prison, ...)

?

???? It should be noted that the youngest (18-34 years old) are more attentive than the eldest to the origin of gifts (more than 60%); Social categories and regions are all at comparable levels.

?? Note that the oldest (65 years and over) favor local products at 43%.
