A divorce is usually not easy on anyone involved, but it is especially difficult on the children.?This is especially true because the children have no say in what is happening around them and how their family seems to be falling apart.?

Children feel isolated, they feel responsible and they suffer from the inability to have free and open communication with both parents as they did when the family lived in the same household. Many people believe that too much technology, social media and cell phone use is detrimental to children, teens and adults.?The thinking being that children are so involved with technology that they don’t socialize, play outside or have the ability to really use their imaginations.

There is, however, a benefit to technology and social media in a divorce where there are children who are living with one of the parents and exercising visitation with the other.?The overwhelming belief is that the most important factor in a divorce involving children is what is in the best interests of the child or children.?This required that the parents were able to cooperate and get along when dealing with issues involving the children, such as visitation and communication.?

Cell phones and social media make it much easier for both parents and the children to communicate openly and freely as often as they want.?In an ideal situation, the children would have consistent and continual contact with both parents.?This is a way to support the parent-child relationship with both parents, and enables the child to talk to the non-custodial parent more frequently.?

It is as important for children to stay in contact with both parents, as it is for both parents to know what is going on in their children’s lives.?Without a doubt, this makes the divorce process a little easier on the children, and the parents, knowing that communication with the children will not be limited to visitation.

Divorce can be a difficult process for a family especially when children are involved.?Children are in a manner of speaking the “victims” of divorce as they have no say in what is going on.?Even though it is difficult for the parents, they need to put aside their differences when working out any part of the divorce that involves the children. That includes allowing free and frequent communication.
