Chris Weingartz Memorial Race, Supporting Ski for Light
Every year, Forbush Corner Nordic has a memorial race in honor of an individual who has been involved and has had an impact on xc skiing in Michigan. This year’s race is in memory of Chris Weingartz, a founding member of the Michigan Cup Race Series. There are few individuals that had the passion for the sport that Chris did. An article written by friend and fellow skier Don Kane may say it best. (Article - Nordic Ski Racer").
Part of the entry fees ($800) of this year's race along with any other contributions in his honor will go to @Ski for Light a non-profit organization with the mission of providing opportunities for visually impaired and mobility-impaired people to experience cross-country skiing. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the organization. We have had the opportunity at Forbush Corner to see the benefits over the past two years, with John Kusku of the Metro Detroit a math and physics teacher at the Oakland Schools Technical Campus racing in a few of the races hosted at Forbush Corner, most recently the Winter Wolf Skiathlon. More on John’s background can be found in this Article -John Kusko written for the U.S. Paralympic Nordic Skiing site.
A special thanks to all that help support such endeavors.
