Jamaica's fastest growing sports journalism and marketing company. Changing lives through sport.
Jamaica has produced numerous male sporting greats. You can think about the days of the late 1940's with the Arthur Wint's and Herb McKenley's of this world in Track and Field. Also Jamaican cricketers such as Michael Holding, Chris Gayle and Andre Russell who have stamped their class and authority. But Jamaica is a nation known for more than just their exploits in track and field and cricket. The country now has a 10 time Caribbean Squash Champion to add into that mix and his name is Christopher Binnie.?
Binnie, a former Campion College student, claimed his 10th Caribbean title on Tuesday at the Liguanea Club in Kingston where he defeated Barbadian Khamal Cumberbatch over three sets 14-12, 11-5, 11-5.?
After being given a bye to the 2nd round for being the number one seed, Binnie's passage to the final included a win over Barbados' Stewart St. John 11-3, 11-1, 11-6, followed by?a 11-4, 11-4, 11-0 win over Chayse Mcquain of Trinidad and Tobago and in the semi-finals he faced Alex Arjoon of Guyana who he dispatched 11-2, 11-8, 11-4.?
This 10th Caribbean title further extends his record for the most Caribbean titles. His first title came in 2009, followed by a decade of dominance in which he won the top prize from 2011 straight through to this August of 2022.?
The 6 foot 3 inch 33 year old player is also a 9-time National Champion and he has represented Jamaica in 2 editions of the World Squash Federation Teams World Cup.

In 2017 in Marseille, France he was a part of the Jamaican team that finished 22nd out of 24 teams while in 2019 in Washington DC, USA, Binnie was a member of the Jamaican team that finished 18th out of 23 nations.?
Binnie's highest ranking is 65th in the world which was achieved in 2018 and due to the inactivity caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Binnie fell to now be 118th in the world.?
However with Binnie back in action on the court and with a busy 2023 ahead which includes the CAC Games and Pan American Games, we can expect Binnie to return to the top 100 list of the World Rankings.?
