Choosing Wise Companions for Running the Race of Faith
"He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed." - Proverbs 13:20 NKJV
Our lives are greatly impacted by those we walk through life with—our companions, our relationships—especially when it comes to our spiritual walk. As this proverb suggests, they can guide us toward wisdom and growth or toward destruction.
1 Corinthians 15:33 NIV cautions us, "Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character.'" This is a good reminder of the importance of selecting our relationships carefully, as they can either uplift us or lead us astray.
The Christian walk is not a sprint but a marathon, requiring perseverance and endurance. So it's essential to surround ourselves with wise and faithful companions who can offer support and encouragement along the way.
We must be aware of the influence of those who run beside us. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is a suitable companion for us. Some may, in fact, lead us away from righteousness with false teachings or destructive behavior. It's essential to discern the character and intentions of those we choose to race this marathon with, we need to find individuals who share our commitment to truth and godliness.
