Choosing a Web Development Company?

Choosing a Web Development Company?

Choosing a Web Development Company

It may be time for you to invest in that brilliant idea you've had or upgrade what you are currently doing- but you have no idea how to choose a new web development company. Of course, I could be biased and say 'choose my company' but don't worry, I'm not going to do that. Instead I'm going to offer you 5 top tips in choosing a company to develop your website.

Tip 1 - Look at previous examples of work (Portfolio)

Your idea would typically have been done in one way or another before - this means that you can work backwards from there. Look for websites that you like the look of, then look in the footer for who the website was designed by and contact the agency responsible for a quote. If you've found examples you like but cannot find who built the website, instead search in google for examples of your industry- so if you are a dentist search for 'best dentist' and then have a click through some websites until you find some agencies with work that you like the look of. It's important you choose someone who can develop something that you like the branding of.

Tip 2 - Review websites such as Clutch / Goodfirms

There are some websites which specialise in reviewing and showcasing website development companies - the two that come to mind are Clutch and Goodfirms. I'd suggest you go to these websites and pick say the top 4 companies to get a quote for by contacting the companies with your idea and asking for details about how they work and what they can offer you. You can then choose the 1 company that you think would be best suited for your project by comparing their work, reviews and quotation.

Tip 3 - Ask a trusted business friend for a recommendation

Maybe you know someone technical - I am sure if you ask them they will point you in the right direction. Here at Web Choice we often get work through word of mouth recommendation. I am sure this is the same for many other agencies. It may seem a bit old school or obvious, but there really is no better trust than personal recommendation.

Tip 4 - Budget will dictate options

Budget is one key factor and I can tell you now if you have less than £1000, you'd be better off using a more templated approach - either by purchasing a template from WordPress yourself or by using one of the pre-built template website builders (I can recommend the best ones if you Private Message me) If you have a more substantial budget then I'd recommend carrying on with the other tips in this article in finding a professional web company to build out your site.

Tip 5 - Go with your gut

Once you've got a range of quotes, I'd recommend 3 to be the perfect amount - go with your gut reaction. For example - how fast did the company get back to you? Were they polite? Did they explain things clearly? Are they forceful or pressurising you? Does their work look high quality? Once you've factored all these things in, go with your gut! You will know which one to choose when you've asked the right questions!

I've been in the web design & development game now for over 10 years and I can tell you now there's some fantastic companies to choose from in the UK and abroad. Here at Web Choice we would be delighted to work with you so do not hesitate to ask me for advice or a quote on anything you are working on or if I cannot help I will put you in touch with the right options or people who will be able to help you. I often advise family or friends of specific options which have no financial benefit to me - because to me, life is all about the giving and not just the getting!
