Choosing the Right Colour Scheme for Seniors.
Choosing the Right Colour Scheme for Seniors.
As people age, they experience physical changes, which is a normal part of the journey. But the world around them including their own homes is not designed with them in mind and that is the problem. This makes older adults feel less comfortable and more excluded and isolated from their environment.??
The key here is to think of the functions that start to work in a different way, consequently, the world needs to respond by finding solutions that help seniors to continue living in an independent manner.??
One of the earliest functions that experience change is the visual function and how they perceive colors around them. Older adults see colors differently from younger people as their color perception diminishes.
This affects them psychologically as research has proven that different colors affect how people feel and provokes different emotions. Seniors discern the warm colors on the yellow to red spectrum much easier than the colder colors on the blue, violet, and purple spectrum.??

Colors also affect the psychology of the elderly, so we should carefully utilize them in our designs for their stimulation effect. For example, Purple creates a calming, meditative atmosphere, and seniors with impaired vision can enjoy it; while Orange is a dominant color, it’s cheerful, and friendly and reduces anxiety; on the other hand, yellow makes seniors feel comfortable and secure, creating a joyful living environment and inspiring creativity.?
