Choosing the right Cloud provider

Whither you work in the public or private sector, choosing the right cloud provider is usually a challenge.

Two weeks ago I ran a poll to see the main factor in choosing a cloud provider. The poll had 4 options:

1- Number of services. (14%)

2- Cost of services. (18%)

3- Performance & Availability. (50%)

4- Managed services. (19%)

We see different opinions and preferences even though performance had the most votes.

But the only advise I can give is to choose a cloud provider that can support you in all 4.

(1) A cloud provider with limited IaaS and PaaS services will limit your digital transformation journey. As your technology stack evolves you will want GPUs, Bare metal, Kubernetes, data management, Artifical intelligence, .. etc.

(2) A high cost cloud will make you reconsider the value of cloud compared to on-prem. It's better to choose a cloud with clear pricing model and no hidden charges.

(3) If you see a cloud provider which does not give you clear SLA's or performance guarantees, RUN!

(4) Managed services will help your digital transformation in case your organization does not have the capacity to build the right team. It's critical in this case to select a cloud provider who you can rely on.
