Choosing a Professional Dog Groomer - A discussion with one of Windsor and Eton's top Dog Grooming Salons

Dog owners want the best for their dogs, particularly when it comes to their health. Whilst healthy foods, exercise and regular vet examinations are obviously key, grooming is just as important to your dog's overall well being.??

Finding the right professional dog groomer is critical as it requires you to choose someone that not only you and your dog trust, but that they are also capable of taking care of any special needs that your dog has.??

I have been in contact with one of the local top grooming salons to help everyone better understand some key things to consider when choosing a dog groomer.??I asked Nicky Kazan the owner of BarkShear Grooming the following questions:

What prompted you to do dog grooming?

The fact we adore dogs and needed to make them part of our everyday lives as well as needing to make a living.?

What areas do you cover?

We’re based on the prestigious Eton High St, but have customers as far as Wales coming to us.?

Do you have experience or specialise in any specific dog breeds?

Nicky the owner is Gold Award winning with handstripped terriers.

How long do you keep the dog?

We work on the basis of quality over quantity, so we generally say 2 hours, but may be more if the dog needs breaks. This can happen if the dog dislikes grooming. We go at the dogs pace, and be sure not to rush them.

Any other guidance before grooming?

Our clients are wonderful, and work so well alongside us in maintaining their dogs coat. A BarkShear Grooming client is someone who wants the absolute best for their dogs welfare.?

Are you able to handle fearful or anxious dogs?

We certainly are, and take pride in doing so. We have even got our famous Puppy University which is something we are well known for. This is a tailor made programme for brand new pups entering the daunting world of grooming. It’s made up of 5 consecutive weekly sessions at 30 mins each time except for their 5th session which will be their full groom. We’ve had such wonderful feedback and clear evidence showing how this course pays off with getting the dog used to the grooming life.

In your opinion, do dogs feel better after grooming?

Oh my goodness, 1 million percent. It’s actually very comical seeing them leave with a swag. They know they look good!

Besides brushing, shampoo and haircut, what services do you provide?

We offer vegan facials, pawdicures and a wonderful de shed mud treatment for our short haired shedders.

What should a dog owner look for in their groomer?

We are part of a new platform called “the groomers spotlight”. This showcases ONLY qualified Dog Groomers and states where they’re based in the country. It is so important to look for and use only qualified dog groomers as unfortunately our Industry is not yet regulated.

Is there anything else you’d like to highlight?

I am also a Coach for female dog lovers who’d like to crate a solid mindset and strategy so they can turn their passion into profit. Dog grooming is not only super fun and rewarding but can also offer you a wonderful career.??
