A coach sent me a very thoughtful email the other day about the loss of her Mom. Her Mom left the Earth a year ago, and the email resonated with the pain of mourning, and how it reminded her that we are here to live.
And what I took from it was that life is a choice. And it is a choice we make every moment we are alive. And the more it stays in the forefront of our consciousness, the more powerful this becomes.
I am in league with my colleague. My Dad left not quite two years ago. His body had begun to desert him over the last five years of his life, and his spirit finally caught up. He was depleted and diminished physically at the end.
I assured him it was okay for him to go. I told him what an amazing father he had been, and how much I owed to him and my Mom, and that I loved him now and forever. And implicitly, I told him of my choice. The choice that I would live my life to his standards and my own of integrity, of adventure, of generosity, and to constantly pursue self-understanding.
And that is the power of the path I have chosen. To work with people in finding and clarifying their own paths. It is in our power to determine and to choose our futures. Yes, sometimes we see mountains to climb over, when there is a ground level pass aside of it. And sometimes we choose to climb over the mountain, just because.
And the choice to embrace our own imperfections. I have never met anyone who hasn’t thought or said, “if only I knew now what I did then.” Because we would have made a different choice. We would be different people now had we made that choice somewhere in our past. But we are not. We are here. We carry the baggage. How do we dump it?
We get to say what our future is. No, we don’t get to say what some of the obstacles will be. But, we get to say what we want, what we strive for, and what we plan for.
And ultimately, the power is in knocking those obstacles out of the way. The ones we don’t see. The ones that limit us.
well spoken! :)? thanks for your insight.
Thanks, Scott.? Worth be reminded of every day!
