Choosing a new path

Love this quote by Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian Explorer. It gives a little insight into his personality. He was most active as an explorer in the 19th century. Wikipedia describes him as an Explorer, Scientist, Diplomat And Humanitarian. One achievement he is most known for is when his team made the first crossing of the Greenland Interior. He also was awarded the Nobel Peace prize in 1922 after World War 1 for his Humanitarian efforts.

I had a great conversation with a friend this morning who shared that she had recently left her Corporate job without a new job to move into. Not only have I seen this as a trend with many people I have connected with over the past couple of months, when she started to share this with some of her friends, she discovered that several of them had recently made the same move. Some would question, why would you leave a secure job without another job to transition to? Part of the reason can be job dissatisfaction, however an overarching similarity between all of them is the negative workplace culture they showed up to on a daily basis. This is powerful and inspiring, it is taking the steps to move forward and decide what the next phase of life will be and not feeling locked in to a place where they were not happy. This friend shared that one of her former coworkers, who had been with the company 15 plus years, shared she wished she made that decision years ago.

What does demolishing the bridges behind you look like? It is being brave in moving forward, facing the fear and doing it anyways. Putting aside the safety net of a steady income in exchange for a better quality of life, free of workplace stress.

Of the people I have personally spoken to recently, 2 were going to travel a little, get their mind clear before they decide their next move. A couple are going to pursue passions they have had all along and are stepping into Entrepreneurism. They understand business ownership will be hard work, but the freedom of choice to design what their lives look like is what fuels their passion in creating it.

Have you ever felt the fear and "demolished a bridge" in your life? How did you come out on the other side and if you had it to do all over again, would you? Please share as your experience is sure to inspire others.
