Choosing Joy and Peace – a midweek Pause for Peace

We live in a made-up world.

Not in the sense of the physics or chemistry of the physical world around us but in how we construct its meaning.

And the words we use to describe our social reality have all been created by humans.

Boundaries, power, status, rights, labels and intention. These are all social constructs.

Yet John O’Donohue reminds us that we can choose what we focus on and what we cultivate in our inner being.

Have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.

Also, the psychologist and neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett teaches that we are not an island and that our brains constantly work with other brains, not least through words, which have more influence than we realise.

So, let's be fully present and speak joy and peace to ourselves and others today.

#Pause4Peace

Pause. See differently. Re-story…

~ John O’Donohue’s blessing ‘For Presence’ can be found in Monday’s post. I’ve just finished Lisa Feldman Barrett’s brilliant little book ‘Seven and a Half Lessons About the Brain’, though as the Guardian review suggests: “Be warned: you may find your world turned upside down.”

The few men who had the privilege to witness the big blue marble on their journey to the moon came back profoundly changed by the experience. A common realization: there are no nations, no boundaries, when Earth is viewed from space. Two: it’s fragile. Three: it’s profoundly beautiful. Four: everything we know, every person, lives there. When put in that perspective, one cannot help but want to protect it. We have much more in common than our differences.

'not least through words', Sue. So important for us to communicate. Thank you for the gentle reminder.
