Now, you might be thinking, 'Isn’t it selfish to be selective about people?'
Let’s unpack that.
Is it selfish to protect yourself from those who constantly complain, gossip, or play the victim? Or to distance yourself from someone who lacks motivation or a bigger vision for themselves- even after you’ve tried to support and help?
The answer is clear: absolutely not.
And this goes beyond family and friends. Every person you bring into your life - colleagues, network, business partners, even coaches - impacts your energy.
This includes the people we follow on social media and the influencers we invite into our lives, often without realising it.
If you’re investing your time and energy into building a connection, make sure it aligns with the positivity you want to attract.
I have been guilty of overlooking this myself in the past, when I was younger, starting from scratch in a new country and new company, it is natural to embrace every new person you meet.
But over the last five years, as I’ve deepened my understanding of the mind-body connection, I’ve realised how essential it is to protect my energy and set boundaries. This practice has been key in nurturing my own happiness and wellbeing.
Imagine your energy as a magnetic field, drawing in the right influences and repelling the wrong ones.
When you unknowingly allow negativity to linger for long, you are weakening that field, inviting stress and uncertainty into your life. And why it is essential to limit your exposure to negative influences as much as you can.
The truth is, not everyone we meet will help us grow or support us in becoming our best selves. Some relationships drain us, hold us back, or even add unnecessary stress. So, at some point, we have to start choosing who we let in more carefully.
By setting boundaries, you can create space for more positivity.

When you make this conscious choice, you’re not only protecting your energy but also acknowledging that you deserve to be in an environment that nurtures your growth and wellbeing.
Setting boundaries allows you to show up as your best self, not just for you, but for those around you, too.
