Choose to Win

Choose to Win

Have you ever noticed how many people are fat? I have. As I walked around Disneyland today, I noticed that almost everyone was either fat or out of shape to some degree, including myself. What's crazy is that it should be the other way around. With all of the free health, fitness and nutritional information that is out there on the internet everyone, including myself, should be in the best shape of our lives, but that is not the case. Why?? Instead, most people are walking around with man boobs, muffin tops, fat rolls and neck fat and for no other reason than poor choices. The choices we make on a daily basis are responsible for the physical condition we are in. Little choices. Insignificant choices. Choices that we make on a daily basis about what to eat, when to eat, what to drink, whether or not to work out, for how long and whether or not to hire a personal trainer to help us. The little choices that we make on a daily basis also condition us to make more poor choices in other areas of our lives. The choices we make consistently are what causes us to be fat and out of shape. The difference between the people who are in great shape and those of us who aren't boils down to the choices we make. Simple, right?

Now, if you apply that same theory to our finances and any other area of our lives, you can conclude that its the same poor choices that cause all of our problems and challenges. Not being able to pay your rent is the equivalent of having man boobs. Not being able to afford a vacation or buy a few new outfits are the same, financially, as having love handles or muffin tops are physically. You are financially out of shape due to the same reason that people are physically out of shape. You make poor choices on a consistent basis. The job you accepted, the effort you put in to it, when you decide to go home for the night, how many calls you make every day. Those choices have the same consequence as eating a donut and skipping the gym. If we all just made better choices consistently, we would see improvement, consistently. It really is that easy. For some, it may be that you are doing great physically, but you're so broke you can't afford to pay attention. For others, it may be that they are in great shape and make a ton of money, but they can't find a good relationship or anyone that will put up with them. Regardless of what area that you feel unhappy with, I bet if you decided to look, it would be the choices that you made that have put you where you are. I would also bet that if you started to make better choices, consistently, that you would improve in those areas very quickly. It always boils down to the choices.

"The choices you make determine the road you'll take."

Here is the good news; we are in control of our choices. This means that any one of us can change our life at any time. If you are unhappy with any situation or area of your life, change it. Begin to analyze the choices that you make and you will begin to see why you have the things you have or are in the situation that you're in. It could be that you chose to hang around the wrong people ...or you chose to get a job instead of starting a business ...or you chose to lie instead of telling the truth ...or you chose to cheat instead of being faithful. The choices you make will determine the road you'll take. Which road do you want to go down? It is entirely up to you. It is not hard to succeed in any area that you want to succeed in. First, you have to choose to win and then simply make good choices, consistently. It truly is that easy. If you want to be rich, then choose to be rich! Then, consistently make good choices in that area.

"You can't get rich making poor choices."

Making good choices may seem harder than it actually is. Usually, the choices that are the best ones are the ones that are right. Do you know the difference between right and wrong? Of course. The trouble comes when we want to justify our choices and take the easy way or the quick way or the most fun way, when deep down we know the right way. We all know the right choices to make, we just choose poorly. Broccoli or cake? Be kind or be mean? Put someone down or build someone up? Work out or be lazy? The right choices are easy to see, but they are not always easy to make because we justify and procrastinate, but that is another matter for another article. For now, if you want to win in all areas of your life, you must first choose to win and then simply make good choices consistently. I know that I have made a lot of bad choices during my life, but it is never too late to start making better ones. I, for one, will be doing so. Go and do the same, my friend. I will see you at the top.

Great article! Life is a series of choices and decisions...with time they all culminate to be something great or the opposite. It is really up to us to make the right decisions to suit what we want, need and deserve. Thanks Brad!

Great article Brad! You have an open invite to come hike to Hattie Dome with me anytime in Fairbanks Alaska. It's only a five mile round trip with the first 1/2 mile at a 42 % grade. The good news is that the home stretch is down hill. :) PS my sled dog and I made 140 trips to the top and back last winter on snowy trails. Now I am trying to put out the same efforts in the financial area of my life. Miles Cobbett, Author of the book Champion
