Stoic Quote of the Week

You get what you deserve. Instead of being a good person today, you choose instead to become one tomorrow

-Marcus Aurelius

What I learned this week:

I was at a great business conference over the weekend, Achieve Biz Explosion. I enjoy these conferences because it is time I get to reconnect with several of my friends in person, which I find more and more important every time I do it. The trouble is that something happened at the conference, and now that event, a negative experience for me, is associated with that event. I was approached by someone who wanted to know why I was walking the way I did, with a limp. I told the person because I have back problems and went to walk away. The person persisted. What kind of back problems, what kind of pain? The person then proceeded to tell me that this product of theirs was the cure. I said, no thank you. I’ve tried that stuff before. Then the person began to tell me that I hadn’t tried their product, and I didn’t know what I was talking about my pain. At each phrase, I attempted to disengage politely. At each comment I made, the person moved closer and attempted to dig deeper until I lost it with an outburst I wouldn’t repeat. An outburst that I am embarrassed to say that I did. Even now, to think and write about it upsets me. I know better, and I also know that I could have walked away instead of allowing myself to become riled by this person. Because there was no other outcome, the longer I allowed the engagement to continue. I know better. But in that moment, I chose poorly and lashed out vocally, and for that, I am ashamed. I made the wrong choice at the moment. The good news is that I can make the right choice the next time. I did because the next morning, I was approached by another person who wanted to know why I move the way I do and that they could help. I thought, at first, here we go again. Then I decided, no, it is not here we go again. Here I go differently. I told this person that I don’t talk to people about my health and ended the conversation. I did it. I made the mistake the first time in poor performance and was presented with another opportunity to handle it differently. I felt the same anger as before, but I recognized the feeling and decided that I didn’t want to be angry again and changed the outcome. Now, I have a solution to this problem that I can implement. The more I choose the positive disengagement, the happier I will be. Remember, just because you did something wrong, it doesn’t define who you are. You can decide to be different in the very next moment.

Planning thought of the week:

What if it all goes wrong and the plan is completely wrong? First off, unless you develop your plan to build a rocket ship, and it should be for a birthday cake, the plan will not be completely wrong. It may feel like it in the moment. When you hit this point of feeling total and utter failure, do not throw it all out the window and start from scratch. Because you put good effort into your plan, there is still usefulness to the plan. It won’t feel like it in the moment of failure. Trust me, there is goodness in the plan.

Business idea I heard about or thought of:

I ran into a podcast guest that I hadn’t met in person this week. Which is always great and doesn’t happen too often. I’ll admit there was a little awkwardness at first because seeing someone in real life vice a 2D screen view is a little different. After we got over the awkwardness, I believe I finally gained an understanding of his business, Boodle AI. Yep, another AI tool. What interests me about this tool is that it is a stack of AI tools. Vice jumping from one to another or paying for Gemini and not Chat GPT or vice versa. It’s a conglomeration and a one-stop shop for you and your team to take advantage of the resources that these tools provide us. If you want to learn more, watch episode EP 123: Why Would I Sacrifice My Integrity for an 'A'? Shawn Olds BoodleAI . If that isn’t enough, contact me, and I’ll connect you with Shawn.

Veteran opportunity of the week:

How could I not include this in Monday Moments? “Metallica encourages Veterans to reach out for support.” Yes, the heavy metal badass rock band Metallic, who sings about the beast under our bed, wants Veterans to raise their hands and ask for help. Love it! Read the article here, Metallica .

Someone I met this week:

I had the opportunity to talk with my friend, Chris Salem, over the weekend. He’s one of those people that I only get to see at this conference a couple of times a year. Chris has been a professional speaker for 30 years. It is amazing to think about the number of people that he has stood in front of and shared his knowledge and experience to help them have a happier life. Anytime I talk with Chris one-on-one, it is always beneficial, and last weekend was no different. The great nuggets of advice and wisdom he shared with me then were and will be great. You’ll be able to hear and watch Chris in a coming episode of 10X Your Team with Cam & Otis. If you are looking for a powerful speaker that can lead your team to long-lasting results and strategy for success, give Chris a shout. Chris Salem
