Choose to Challenge

Choose to Challenge

International Women's Day is a day dedicated to celebrating the achievements of women and raising awareness of gender equality. It is a day to recognise the progress that has been made in promoting gender equality and to continue to push for further progress. 2021's theme was "Choose to Challenge," which encourages individuals to challenge gender bias and inequality and create a more inclusive world for all.

Despite the progress that has been made, gender inequality still exists in many areas of life. Women continue to face barriers in the workplace, in education, and in their personal lives. Women are still underrepresented in many leadership positions and are paid less than men for doing the same work. Women also face discrimination based on their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and other factors.

This theme, "Choose to Challenge," is a call to action for individuals to take action to promote gender equality. We can all do our part to challenge gender bias and inequality in our daily lives. Here are some actions that we can take to promote gender equality:

  1. Educate ourselves: We can educate ourselves on issues related to gender equality and learn about the experiences of women in different parts of the world. This can help us to better understand the challenges that women face and to be more empathetic and supportive.
  2. Speak out: We can use our voices to speak out against gender bias and inequality when we see it. This can include speaking up in meetings, calling out inappropriate behavior, and sharing our own experiences to help others understand the impact of gender inequality.
  3. Support women: We can support women by promoting their achievements, advocating for their rights, and mentoring or sponsoring women in our workplaces and communities.
  4. Take action: We can take action to promote gender equality in our communities by volunteering for organisations that work on women's issues, donating to causes that support women, and voting for politicians who prioritise gender equality.

On International Women's Day, let us all choose to challenge gender bias and inequality and create a more inclusive world for all. Let us celebrate the achievements of women and continue to push for further progress towards gender equality. We all have a role to play in promoting gender equality, and together, we can create a better world for future generations.
