The Choice of Stress or Inner Peace

It isn't even noon yet and you feel stressed already?
Take a deep breath in (to the count of 4) and out (to the count of 4), another breath in and out, one more time… in and out. Doesn’t this already feel a little bit better?
Can you remember a time when you felt really stressed? Can you remember a specific time? Was it as terrible as you thought it would be or did everything end up falling into place? I thought so. Wouldn't it be better to train yourself to think about positive outcomes rather than always imagining worst-case scenarios?
Everything starts with the way we think and if we want different results, we have to change the way we think about certain situations.
If you think something has to be fixed right now, it may have to be a band-aid solution and you will have to make time for the same situation over and over again.
Wouldn’t it be more efficient to be proactive (think first – act later) rather than being reactive (emotional “do it now”)?
Here is one of the biggest misconceptions in the manufacturing industry: If people don’t look and act super stressed (= run around like a chicken with its head cut off), they don’t care. Nothing can be further from the truth.?
Most people care and want to go home at the end of their day feeling good about the work they have accomplished. It’s just very difficult when you get criticized and pressured over and over again to give your best on a daily basis.
Many people are mentally tired and worn out. I see this every day.
If you feel that some people don’t have a so-called “sense of urgency," then it is most likely because they don’t feel ownership and responsibility for their job or they have some serious challenges in their personal life.?
A sense of urgency is created when people are emotionally connected to what they do, respect their boss, and feel responsible for the results.?If people don’t have a sense of urgency, what else could be the problem?
5 things that cause unnecessary stress & decrease the sense of urgency:?
1. If everything is urgent, nothing is urgent.
What do you think the “do it now” syndrome from 10 different directions will do for the thought process and the emotional state of people?
2. Learn to differentiate between urgent and important.
There may be things that are important but not urgent. Then there are things that are urgent but not really important. Communicate with a clear deadline instead of saying “do it now” if it isn’t an emergency. If there are too many emergencies, you may want to get to the bottom of things.
3. Lack of support and resources
“Make it happen!" Translation: I have no idea what to do but I expect you to fix it without my support. This is one of the biggest stressors in many companies. Change this comment to “How can we make it happen?” and truly listen to what people have to say.
4. Bullying behaviours
Nobody comes to work to be yelled at and/or belittled. Results through bullies are only short-term and cannot be sustained. In reality, bullies slow everything down and are damaging to the corporate culture.
5. Non-existent listening skills
Listen to the voices of the people around you. You may learn a thing or two.
It's a new week: I encourage you to choose inner peace. It is the key for a healthier and more productive life experience.
