Chit Chat(GPT) with chAI(Latte)

Your new chit-chat buddy is here, finally. And guess what? Not all buddies have to be human. ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, is a large language model trained to generate human-like text. It can be used for various natural language processing tasks such as translation, question answering, and text completion. Don’t believe me? Keep generating responses.

What makes it smarter than available language models?

It has been fine-tuned specifically for conversational and language generation tasks, which makes it well-suited for applications such as chatbots and language translation. Additionally, a large amount of data and fine-tuning make it a powerful tool for natural language processing tasks. Below are its advantages-

  • Generating texts such as essays, articles, and stories. It can also be used for generating automated responses to customer inquiries and for creating chatbots
  • Translating text from one language to another with high accuracy
  • Completing text based on a given prompt, which can be helpful for tasks such as writing code or creating summaries
  • Summarizing a long text into a shorter version, which can be helpful for tasks such as creating summaries of news articles or scientific papers
  • The model can be fine-tuned to a specific domain or task by training it on a dataset particular to that domain
  • Automating a variety of language processing tasks like creating chatbots
  • Its speed and efficiency enable processing large amounts of text quickly and efficiently, making it suitable for real-time applications such as virtual assistants
  • And the best part- IT’S FREE !

What are the potential drawbacks?

  • The inner workings of language models like ChatGPT are complex to understand and it lacks citation of sources, making it difficult for users to know why a particular output was generated.
  • Training and using large language models like ChatGPT require significant computational resources, which can be a barrier for some organizations or individuals.
  • It generates text based on historical data and hence cannot iterate or innovate beyond the data fed to the model. Hence, one cannot rely on it for personalized or innovative content.?
  • These models are trained on large amounts of text data, which can introduce biases based on the language and perspectives represented in that data, leading to biases.
  • Language tools do not have the ability to understand the context of the text they generate, which can lead to the generation of text that is nonsensical or irrelevant.

What's in stock for the future?

Apart from improving accuracy and performance, the plan is to make these models more explainable and transparent in their decision-making and address concerns about potential biases. Additionally, ongoing research in areas like Explainable AI and Generative Pre-training Transformer (GPT-3) could lead to further advancements in this field. Another important future direction is to improve their ability to perform multiple tasks, called Multi-task learning. Some researchers are also exploring the use of language models in a generative way, for example, using them to generate computer code, poetry, music, and other forms of creative content.

In a nutshell, ChatGPT is trained on a massive text dataset and is capable of generating human-like text on a myriad of topics. But, this also leads us to an interesting thought- will it kill creativity?
